Educational Threat | Fighting Radical Islam

The education our children receive about Islam doesn’t come only from the media. In fact, information about Islamic culture is taught in public and private schools across the U.S. From kindergarten to college, our children may be susceptible to mistruths about Islam, and its relationship to the western world.

There is a dedicated stealth curriculum campaign by factions of the Muslim world to paint Islam in the most positive light, and that may not be a bad thing. The problem is that references to Radical Islam are being completely whitewashed.

While most authorities might define Jihad as a holy war, or as a violent struggle that is the duty of all Muslims to undertake, the definition of Jihad in many Social Studies textbooks makes no mention whatsoever of the violent nature of Jihad.

It is not only Islam that is being distorted. A recent study of 28 popular textbooks in the U.S. exposed hundreds of inaccuracies about Islam, Christianity and Judaism, and especially regarding the history of the Middle East.

These textbooks may be used in your children’s public schools. One such textbook recorded as fact that the Koran was dictated to the prophet Mohammed by God. While most Muslims might agree, non-Muslims might consider that ‘fact’ to be a religious belief.

Did you know that Muslims were the first to reach the Americas, well before Christopher Columbus? That ‘fact’ was printed in a textbook being used in an Islamic private school for children in the U.S., and you can only imagine what other types of ideas are being taught at such schools, both inside and outside of the textbooks.

Under the unsuspecting watch of parents and schoolteachers, the campaign of disinformation is intentional. Many public school administrators ask for help when planning their curriculums and selecting textbooks on History, Geography, Social Studies, and other subjects. This is normal. But guess who is right there to provide the assistance: Radical Islam.

According to Title VI of the United States Higher Education Act, 18 top universities are required to give assistance to public schools grades K through 12. In order to receive special Title VI taxpayer funding from the U.S. government, these schools must offer seminars for teachers to help shape lesson plans and curriculums, and give recommendations for textbooks.

The teachers think that they are getting expert advice from educational experts, particularly on politics and Middle Eastern Studies, but it should come as no surprise that the Saudi government has taken the initiative of sponsoring the Middle Eastern Centers at many Title VI Universities.

In particular, the wealthy Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has made donations totaling over $100 million to Middle Eastern departments at several universities including Harvard, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Cal Berkeley, Syracuse and Howard.

At Georgetown University, one of the Title VI schools, you will find the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Understanding between faiths is most definitely important, but not in Saudi Arabia where it is illegal to practice Christianity.

Furthermore, using the democratic banners of free speech, university campuses across North America have developed into hotbeds for aggressive pro-Radical Islam rights groups. Of course, freedom of speech does not exist in Iran, Syria, and many other countries with radical leaderships.

As parents and concerned community members, we must remain vigilant to ensure that the educations our children are receiving from grade school through college are accurate, and not laced with the false ideology of Radical Islam.
